The Long Game of Community: Lessons from Inman, Comarketing & Building Experience Makers

The last couple of weeks have been a little bit of a blur and we’re rolling into another one with TF Success Summit happening this week in Anaheim.

Somewhere in between webinars, happy hours, product launches, and far too many Red Bulls, you realize something …

The people who consistently show up, invest in relationships, and put themselves in the right rooms keep creating opportunities that seem to appear out of nowhere.

Here’s a few updates from my corner of the world …

Just Wrapped Up Inman Real Estate Connect San Diego

Inman has never been my favorite conference because of what’s happening on stage. It’s because of what happens after (and around Inman) …

It’s the conversations in the hallways, the dinners that stretch a little longer than planned, and the cocktail that turns into a partnership six months later.

Some of the best relationships start this way.

While we were in San Diego we hosted a small happy hour at Fifth & Rose inside the Pendry with Ryan Town who runs Elequate (my new client).

If you’re not familiar with Elequate, they’re helping real estate teams build healthier, more profitable organizations by improving recruiting, retention, conversion, and accountability through better systems and coaching.

The average team leaves roughly $2.5 million in annual GCI on the table because of missed opportunities throughout the business.

If you’re curious where those opportunities might be hiding inside your own team, take their free Funnel Assessment:

Book your free Funnel Assessment here.

We’ll do a full CRM audit to uncover patterns, look for gaps, and uncover missed opportunities. Then we’ll turn around and share (at least) 5 things you can implement today to turn things around (at no cost to you).

This Week’s Comarketing Mastermind:

We’re starting to see regular spikes in new sign-ups at Comarketing. It’s been fun building from scratch though at times you want to see it grow faster.

We had a new dev team join us at Comarketing on July 5th and they have already ripped through at least half of our product roadmap for the year … it’s pretty freakin’ wild how fast you can ship when you’re leveraging AI correctly.

What a freakin’ time to be alive!

One of the latest features we launched is sub-users. Team leaders can now invite every agent on their roster into Comarketing and share revenue back with those agents.

If recruiting and retention are priorities for your business this year, I think you’ll like what we’re building.

Learn more on this week’s mastermind where we’ll walk you through sub-users in-person …

I’ve Been Building Something, Too!

I hosted my first event in 2008. It was at the Hilton in Pasadena. I got 27 sponsors to contribute $250 each to rent out the entire space.

It was single-handedly the most disorganized event I’ve ever run . But, I got ~510 people to show up from all over the U.S., including leadership staff from the Houston Association of REALTORS® and the Miami Association of REALTORS®.

~510 agents thought it was worthwhile to book a flight and spend the day with me, rather than doing something else.

I realize now that I was learning how communities are built and over the course of the last decade, I’ve designed some pretty epic experiences.

Fast forward to 2022 and 2023, and I’d be building the Super Bowl of real estate conferences, FUBCON. Higher stakes, hundreds of thousands in sponsorships, and thousands of attendees who would say, “I think it’s worthwhile to spend my WEEK with you.”

I have a decades worth of community building experiences and stories to tell and I’m sharing them in my new publication on substack.

All the stories, the processes, the templates, and even the failed experiments. On learning how to design exceptional in-person and digital experiences that create raving fans and building community for the cost of an old fashion. And all of the behind-the-scenes on what it’s like to build a Saas in real-time.

Make it a double and upgrade to annual or become a Founding Member and get my Event OS system and learn how to create epic event experiences, host VIP dinners, launch your own digital summit, and create community experiences that creates raving fans.

Basically, come learn how to become an Experience Maker yourself!

I’d love to have you there.

That’s it for today!

Hope to see you at Tom Ferry Success Summit in the next day or two. If you’re in town, give me a holler!
