I’ve been reading Julien Smith’s blog for a while now. He does a pretty good job of posting content consistently (far better job than me anyway). If I remember correctly, in our interview with him he mentioned that his goal was to write one blog post a day. If you think about it, it’s great practice. It’s an exercise towards better writing…better thinking.
So on that note, I’m challenging myself to write (at least) one blog post a day for the rest of May. Not only will I challenge myself to write a blog post a day, but I’ll attempt to make the content some of the highest quality content that I’ve written. Again, this is an exercise towards better writing and higher level thinking (I encourage you to challenge yourself to do the same). My intent is to make keep the content relevant, entertaining and insightful. If I achieve either one of the three in each post, I consider that a win.
Will this be challenging? You betcha! But that’s partly the point and my guess is I’ll come up with something…

Hello Recardo, just stumbled to your blog from Chris Brogan's. You've a great set up around. Will be visiting more 🙂
By the way, even I try to post everyday. Seth Godin does it since years. It's easy if you follow a few steps.
1. Read a lot of blogs, newspapers, books every single day (Like a hour or two)
2. Post in the evening
3. Don't worry about the length of the post
4. Concentrate on post, not on illustrations.
Jaky: welcome to the site and thanks for the kudos on the set up around here!
Seth Godin does do an excellent job of posting daily. His writing style is short and too the point which I'm sure helps in the process. He has one point, and he focuses on delivering it quickly through the use of stories and references to case studies and the like.
Thanks for the recommendations and for taking the time to comment; you're welcome back any time.
Great tips! Especially the one about length. That was what got me for a while. I felt like every post had to be a researched thesis. Once I gave myself permission to sometimes just blog some thoughts or even a picture, the ideas flowed better.
I think one should never set limits with blogging. It should be casual. To say, I don't believe in what people call 'problogging.'
Have a heart Ricardo, one post a day for a whole month!
I know what's going to happen here.
Commenters will start agreeing to join you and we'll all end up attempting to write a post a day.
Sounds like the road to madness to me.
Guess I could cheat and start splitting up my long posts into bits.
Keith: a little crazy yes, but I think I can do it. And if I manage to keep them relevant, entertaining and insightful, all the better for it. When I feel the writer's block coming on, I simply do one of two things, turn on some good music, or go for a walk (those two work like a charm).
Speaking of lengthy posts, I don't often read them but I've been thoroughly enjoying what you've been writing.
Thanks for stopping by the new site!
Thanks for the encouragement Ricardo.
Looks to me as though you are really enjoying the post a day challenge.
Hi Ricardo,
I wish you well with the challenge. I used to do that (well, up to six a week) on my blog, but when life and other blogging endeavors got in the way, I cut back to two. THAT I can handle well. and prefer to keep it that way.
BUT, like you said, it is great practice. Happy Blogging!
Barbara: you have done so quote successfully! You're an excellent example to others. The consistency and the community that you've built at Blogging Without A Blog has been amazing. So kudos to you there.
I also like that you've welcomed guest bloggers as a way to manage the content creation on the site.
Thanks for the comment and for the well wishes with the challenge! I'm working on tomorrow's post as we speak 🙂
That is the exact challenge that got me blogging more consistently. Last year about this time, I really wanted to begin blogging more and I was tired of starting every blog post with, “I know I haven't blogged in a while….” So I decided to take 1 month and blog 1 post every day.
At first it was hard and I was frustrated, but after about 2 weeks, I began to look forward to blogging and by the end I loved it. Now, if I go a few days without blogging, I feel like something is missing.
Michele: Nice! So I'm headed in the right direction 🙂
I think it's like working out for the first time. The first couple of weeks are tough but once you break through, it becomes routine and it gets a lot easier.
Thanks for visiting and for the comment!
Hi Ricardo,
This is a really good idea. It will be very interesting to see how it turns out.
One of the easiest ways I have found to get ideas is to read other blogs. It usually doesn't take long to be inspired to write when I do this.
I also have a notebook where I write down ideas for blog posts. I typically get several ideas every day, so I do my best to remember to write the good ones down.
Good luck with the challenge!
Greg: You're right. I find a ton of ideas by reading through other blogs and comments too for that matter (there's some gold in comments).
Thanks for visiting and for the support. Now, to go read and find inspiration for tomorrow's post 🙂
