How To Use Categories Effectively On Your Blog

Yesterday I shared some tips on the Diverse Solutions blog for how to use blog categories more effectively. Today, I thought I’d share a little video outlining my process (cuz you know, some people are visual learners):

Can’t see the video? Click here.

Basically, we can break it down into three steps:

  1. Define your topic/niche,
  2. Brainstorm your category titles,
  3. Brainstorm post titles each of your categories.

Over To You:

How many categories do you currently have on your blog? Could you use these steps to do a little house-cleaning?

Find these tips helpful? How about passing ‘em on to your network (hit the Facebook Share and/or RT buttons). And while you’re here, don’t forget to get more bloggy goodness by subscribing to the rss feed or sign up to receive updates (free) via email.

I always wondered about how exactly the categories should be displayed :) Is that you in the video?

It's not quite a technical video on how to set up your categories. More of a brainstorm for how to map out your blog topics and get organized.

        Nonetheless, is that you? :)

Great video – a little long (most people don't have huge attention spans) but it was really well organized and put together. :)

Well I thank you for sitting through it, heh :-)

You're right though, definitely want to keep it under a minute. I'm also one of those folks with a short attention span.

Thanks for the comment Kirsten and look forward to seeing more in your video blog series!

It’s amazing how short folks’ attention spans are these days. I think youtube and other internet spots have greatly contributed to this “shortening”. I find myself in a similar situation.

Killer vid man. You gotta do more.

Oh yeah. Also, you showed me a few things I didn't know as well!

Heh, I picked up the whiteboard just for that video when in fact I could have filmed it the way you filmed yours.

But yes, I want to do more. Just gotta get comfortable and outline some topics.

I have a bit of a clutter going on with my categories and am about to clean house. Thanks for the tips Ricardo

I once transferred a site from Blogspot to WordPress… They had a whopping 235+ categories (true story).
Less is more. The neater the better.

      Happy organizing AL!
