15 Social Media Blogs That You Should Be Reading

On the platform, readingKeeping up-to-date with the latest trends in social media can be difficult (things move and change ever so fast). With new content being posted daily around the web, keeping up can be a full-time job! Heck, I subscribe to well over 300 blogs in my Google FeedReader (I don’t read them all of course but I sure do try).

Listed below are some of my top daily reads for staying on top of social media. I check these just about daily via my Google FeedReader and some via email. My recommendation is pick a few, browse through the archives, and subscribe to the ones that you find helpful.

15 Blogs on Social Media That You Should Be Reading:

Below are some of my favorite blogs on social media that I subscribe to (with only one or two with a real estate focus). I read most of these daily (or at least I try to). I’ve included a link to each of these sites as well as a quote from their “About” Page to give you a sense of what each of these sites writes about.

Mashable – “Founded in July 2005, Mashable is the world’s largest blog focused exclusively on Web 2.0 and Social Media news. With more than 12.5 million monthly pageviews, Mashable is the most prolific blog reviewing new Web sites and services, publishing breaking news on what’s new on the web and offering social media resources and guides.”

TechCrunch – “TechCrunch was founded on June 11, 2005, as a weblog dedicated to obsessively profiling and reviewing new Internet products and companies. In addition to covering new companies, we profile existing companies that are making an impact (commercial and/or cultural) on the new web space.”

Chris Brogan – “Chris Brogan is a ten year veteran of using social media and both web and mobile technologies to build digital relationships for businesses, organizations, and individuals. Chris speaks, blogs, writes articles, and makes media of all kinds at [chrisbrogan.com], a blog in the top 10 of the Advertising Age Power150, and in the top 100 on Technorati. He is co-author of the book Trust Agents.”

Social Media Explorer – “Social Media Explorer is the online home and blog of Social Media Explorer LLC, which is my consulting company. I’ve been called all sorts of things by folks around the social media, public relations, marketing and communications industries. I shy away from self-aggrandizement, but you’ll find some quotes about me from others below.”

Conversation Agent – “Valeria Maltoni is a professional marketer with 20 years of real-world corporate experience, 10 of which online, across a broad array of mid-to-large sized companies. Hands-on work at a Fortune 500 technology company, a technology start-up, in health care, chemical manufacturing, risk management consulting, and the non-profit sector have provided her with a wealth of experience and insights. Now Valeria applies that knowledge to helping businesses understand how customers and communities have changed marketing, public relations, and communications – and how to build value in this new environment.”

Twist Image – “When Google wanted to explain online marketing to the top brands in the world, they brought Mitch Joel to the Googleplex in Mountain View, California. Marketing Magazine dubbed him the “Rock Star of Digital Marketing” and called him, “one of North America’s leading digital visionaries.” In 2006 he was named one of the most influential authorities on Blog Marketing in the world. Mitch Joel is President of Twist Image – an award-winning Digital Marketing and Communications agency. He has been called a marketing and communications visionary, interactive expert and community leader. He is also a Blogger, Podcaster, passionate entrepreneur and speaker who connects with people worldwide by sharing his marketing insights on digital marketing and personal branding.”

Web-Strategist – “As a Web Strategist I strive to define and deliver user and community needs, business goals, and web technology to craft and deliver long term successful web programs for companies.”

PR 2.0 – “Brian Solis has been actively writing about new PR since the mid 90s to document how the Web was redefining the communications industry — he coined PR 2.0 along the way. He was among the original thought leaders working to defend and define “Social Media” as a definitive media category.”

Logic + Emotion – “David Armano is a senior partner at Dachis Group. This is my personal blog where I share thoughts + opinions that are solely my own.  Logic+Emotion exists at the intersection of business, design + the social web.”

Twitip – “TwiTip is about capturing some of the lessons that I and others have been learning about Twitter and how to use it more effectively. It will cover Twitter Tips of all varieties including Writing for Twitter, Branding, Growing a Following, Corporate Tweeting and a lot more.”

AllFacebook – “AllFacebook.com is a blog that was started by Nick O’Neill. The purpose of the blog is to cover all issues pertaining to Facebook including new applications, general news, and analysis about the future of Facebook.”

Agent Genius – “Agent Genius is the first multi-author real estate magazine designed by and for real estate agents nation wide. Unlike other real estate blogs that blog at the consumer, we write beside the consumer in a real estate magazine style with an engaging real estate community made up solely of  industry professionals.  Our primary goal is to educate readers to improve their business as well as the overall industry with the end goal being improvement of the consumer experience.”

MyTechOpinion – “At MyTechopinion we dig through ALL those technology offerings to identify key products and services to benefit your real estate business. Let us be your real estate technology knowledge base. Please share your comments and questions with us!”

Dosh Dosh – “Dosh Dosh is a blog offering internet marketing and blogging tips, alongside social media strategies. Best consumed by bloggers, entrepreneurs, web publishers, marketers, freelancers and small business owners.”

Online Marketing Blog – “Since December 2003, TopRank’s Online Marketing Blog has provided insights, resources and commentary on a range of digital marketing and public relations topics including: Search engine marketing and optimization, Social media marketing, Business blogging and marketing, Online public relations.”

SEOmoz – “Keep up to date with the most current News, Tips & Highlights from the search marketing industry with the daily SEO Blog.”

There are several blogs that I read each day without fail. Chris Brogan's is one, and I follow it to read the commentary almost as much as what Chris has to say (which is a LOT). I also read Brian Solis whenever he posts (though it's not every day), as well as Amber Naslund (Altitude Branding — Amber is wickedly smart).

Other bloggers who I try never to miss are Jonathan Fields (author of “Awake At The Wheel”), Seth Godin (of course), Rob Hahn (author of Notorious R.O.B. — generally real estate-related), Brian Clark (creator of Copyblogger … and ALL of its writers are great), and I would be remiss if I didn't mention you, Mr. Bueno. There are so many talented bloggers out there; I garner information from industry blogs, as well as blogs that are considered just “fun”. Each has great value for me.

    Great information here! Thanks. 🙂

Melissa: have I mentioned that you rock?! Cuz you do! Just sayin'…

Thanks for pointing out Amber Naslund's blog! I do read it and agree, she's pretty awesome… In fact you've pointed out quite a few that I subscribe to and didn't include in this post (shame on me). Brian Clark in particular is a MUST READ for anyone interested in writing good copy! He has some excellent posts/tips in there. As for the others, Seth Godin's is probably the only one that I subscribe to via email.

I think being up-to-date on new technology requires a good mix of reading from both in-side and out-side of our industry! We learn a lot from watching what folks outside of our industry are doing (in my opinion)…

Thanks for stopping by and leaving an awesome comment!
